Description:
The Women and Gender Studies Institute (WGSI) and the Department of
History, at the University of Toronto, invite applications for a tenure-stream
appointment in Gender & Transnational History. This is a joint-appointment
between WGSI (51%) and the Department of History (49%). The
appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor and will begin July
1, 2016.
Applicants must have earned a Ph.D. in the humanities or social sciences
in a relevant discipline by the date of appointment or shortly thereafter.
Preference will be given to candidates with a demonstrated record of
excellence in teaching and research. Evidence of excellence in teaching
will be demonstrated by letters of reference, teaching evaluations, dossier
and/or syllabi submitted as part of the application. Evidence of research
excellence will be shown through research of an internationally
competitive caliber, demonstrated by publications in leading journals in the
relevant field, presentations at significant conferences, awards and strong
endorsements by referees.

The position has a focus on feminist, anti- and post-colonial studies,
historical method and diasporic and transnational studies. We seek a
theoretically and interdisciplinary engaged historian of gender and
sexuality. Geographic focus is open; we are particularly interested in
scholars working on the 19th and 20th centuries, whose scholarship
engages the history of gender through feminist, anti- and post-colonial
studies and diasporic and transnational studies.
